Onsite Blood Tests and Pathology

Our in-house laboratory can provide your pet’s clinical pathology results within minutes.

We commonly test blood, fluids and body tissues to identify existing disease.

Equipped with the market-leading IDEXX in-house laboratory, Bedford-Dianella Vet Centre can quickly perform many diagnostic tests to achieve an accurate and rapid diagnosis. This is especially important in very ill animals and those requiring immediate or emergency treatment.

The tests commonly performed by our vets are:

blood tests to assess the organ function and internal health of your pet

urine and faecal tests

biopsy examination

cultures and infectious disease testing

fine-needle aspirates (FNAs).

FNAs are performed on any unusual lumps your pet may develop. Our vets examine the extracted cells under a microscope to help identify any lumps that need prompt removal, such as cancerous lesions.

More specialised tests may need to be performed by an external veterinary laboratory. Special blood test results can take 12 to 24 hours, and culture and biopsy results can take up to 7 days, depending on the nature of the test being performed.

Drug Monitoring

When a pet is taking long term medication for a condition, we usually recommend monitoring its effect by assessing the levels circulating in the body. If we can provide an effective treatment using a lower dose of medication, we will!

Some medications may have an adverse effect on another organ, so we also like to check this isn’t occurring in your pet by measuring enzyme levels with the blood.
